Depression Therapy in Toronto
While it’s completely normal to experience some sadness in response to life’s events, depression is different. It’s a constant sadness that leaves you without hope, and may be accompanied by:
- A feeling of numbness
- An inability to enjoy anything
- Feelings of guilt or low self-worth
- Disturbed appetite and sleep
- Low energy
- Lack of motivation
- Poor concentration
- Ongoing pessimism
- Suicidal thoughts
If you’re dealing with depression you may feel like it’s impossible to enjoy the activities that used to make you happy. Getting out of bed, doing daily chores, or talking to friends may feel extremely draining. You may feel like there are constant negative thoughts bombarding you, or that you’re completely empty.
You are not alone.
An estimated 1 in 20 adults in Canada have experienced at least one major depressive episode. While it is not uncommon to experience depression, it doesn’t mean it’ll go away on its own.
Left untreated, depression can become chronic or recurrent, and may lead to issues in your relationships, your job, and even your physical health.

Depression Therapy in Toronto
There are several different styles of psychotherapy that help manage and reduce depression. They include:
- Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
- Psychodynamic Therapy
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Person-Centred Therapy
- Adlerian Therapy
All these therapy styles offer different approaches to overcoming depression.
When you attend your first therapy session, it’s good to let your therapist know whether you would like to explore your past, have space to really feel and communicate your emotions, or focus on solutions.
It’s also completely okay not to know what you want at first. Your depression therapist is there to help support and guide you through your healing process.
How does depression therapy at KMA work?
Depression therapy at KMA Therapy begins with a 50-minute introductory session with one of our intake counsellors.
In these 50 minutes, we will ask important questions to determine the severity and treatment approach needed for your depression:
- When did the low-mood or depressive feelings begin?
- How does depression show up in your life?
- What are your current coping mechanisms when you feel low?
- Is there anything contributing to the severity of depression in your life?
Here at KMA Therapy, we believe it’s important that we get to know you so that your depression therapist is the right fit. The consultation is also a wonderful time to address any questions you may have.
We will provide you with a customised ‘plan of action’. It will include the depression therapist who is best equipped to help you, as well as any additional testing or psychological services we feel would be helpful.
