Psychotherapist Toronto

What is a Psychotherapist?

Psychotherapy has been proven to increase happiness, overall fulfillment, motivation, and decrease stress and anxiety. Psychotherapy consists of a series of techniques for treating mental health, emotional and some psychiatric disorders. Psychotherapy helps us understand what helps us to feel positive or anxious, as well as accepting our strong and weak points. If we can identify their feelings and ways of thinking they we can be better at coping with difficult situations. Psychotherapists have specific training in psychotherapy, and generally have a minimum of master’s level training.

Most of our psychotherapy services are covered under your health insurance plan under "Psychologist" services. As a client in our practice, we are strongly dedicated to helping you resolve your issues in a professional and safe environment.

Psychotherapy differs slightly from counselling in its nature, but the two can be used simultaneously to provide a therapeutic treatment plan that is right for you.

Our office feels warm and cozy, and we will always offer you a warm cup of tea on your arrival. We also a full range of services to complement your therapy experience - registered massage therapy, psychologist services, acupuncture, chiropractic care, and naturopathic medicine. We look forward to meeting you.

What are the Benefits of a Psychotherapist?

Participating in psychotherapy offers us a number of benefits. Therapy can give the client a fresh perspective on a difficult problem and direct the client towards a solution. The benefits of psychotherapy include:

  • Being able to understand yourself and your personal goals and values better.
  • Developing skills for improving relationships.
  • It helps the client overcome certain problems, such as an eating disorder, depression, or anxiety.
  • Obtaining a solution to the problems or concerns that made the client seek therapy.

The Psychotherapeutic Relationship

Research has shown us that regardless of the theoretical orientation of your psychotherapist, your experience will depend largely on their personality and your connection with them. We have taken this research to heart, and for this reason we always start therapy with a 30 minute consultation with our director, Kimberly, to ensure that you will be with a therapist you can truly connect with. Together, we will determine the length of therapy that's right for you.

Psychotherapy depends on many factors unique to you, and the scope of your issues. Generally, you will sense when the sessions have been successfully completed when you have overcome major issues in your life. You will notice that they have new energy, interest, and enthusiasm about other aspects of your life - as well as the confidence to tackle new challenges on your own.

Successful psychotherapy also depends on maintaining the momentum with your therapist. When you attend regularly set sessions, we can usually progress faster than when our sessions are spread far-apart. You will find weekly sessions the most productive. Some people feel that bi-weekly, or twice-a-week sessions are the right pace for them.
