Depression usually presents as a variety of smaller symptoms including depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration. If left untreated, these problems can become chronic or recurrent and lead to impairments in our ability to take care of our responsibilities. Depression is the leading cause of disability, and occurs in persons of all genders, ages, and backgrounds.
Counselling and Psychotherapy can help you achieve lasting change in dealing with depression. During your first consultation, we customize a Psychotherapy and Counselling treatment plan that’s right for you. Depression counselors at KMA help you explore the root causes of your depression, which can include workplace issues, family relationships, and social environments. Our depression therapists also develop treatment plans which empower you to take control: Developing tools and resources to change your way of thinking, change automatic negative thought patterns and negative self-talk, and promote psychologically healthier patterns of living.
Psychotherapy and Counselling here at KMA Therapy begins with a 30 minute consultation with our director, Kimberly Moffit, or one of our intake counsellors.
In these thirty minutes, we will ask important questions to determine the severity and treatment approach needed for your depression:
When did the low-mood or depressive feelings begin?
What are your unique symptoms in suffering from depressive feelings?
What are your current coping mechanisms for feeling low?
What life situations are contributing to the severity of low-feelings in your life?
We’re also asking questions to get a better sense of your personality. Here at KMA, we believe it’s very important that we get to know you so that your counselor is the ‘right fit’.
The consultation is also a wonderful time to address any questions you may have.
Finally, we will provide you with a customized ‘plan of action’ – this includes the recommended depression counselor who is best equipped to suit your needs, a recommended duration of therapy (if applicable), and any additional testing or psychological services we feel would be helpful.
The fee for consultations is $120 and this is usually covered by your workplace benefits package.
